Introduction  | Outreach Health Stewardship

by Jim Dawson, committee chair

The healthy congregation committee grew out of an ad hoc committee on parish nursing and was established to promote heath within the congregation and the community at large.

Initially, we are going to concentrate on increasing health care awareness by bringing forward speakers on interesting health care issues.  We have an exciting list of potential topics such as the human genome project, herbal medicine nutrition, palliative care, healthy backs, cardiac medicines, and coping with stress.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for topics or speakers please email Jim Dawson.

Our first program, Health Care at Home, was Sunday Apr 22, 2001 immediately following church at 12 noon.  Mary Alice Barr of the Community Care Access Centre updated us on all of the programs and activities of the CCAC. A light lunch was served at a nominal cost of $5/person $3/child under 13. Here's a summary of her presentation

The healthy congregation committee is looking for additional members.  We need both health care professionals to help us define the committee's mission, and people who can help organize speakers and assist at events.
